NaNoWriMo Update: Week Four

This update is a bit earlier than I expected it to be, but that’s because I’ve completed the NaNoWriMo challenge for 2020!

A badge with a viking helmet and puple stars. It says it's for writing 50k in November
I am so happy to get this! It’s so pretty!

Here are my final stats:

Total Word Count:

A completed green circle with 50162/50000 total words beside it
A bit over what I needed to complete it, but I was on a roll!

Overall Progress:

A dark blue line over a light blue line. The dark line is my word progress and the light one is the suggested trajectory
I’m amazed that I managed to keep ahead, to be honest.

My day-by-day spreadsheet breakdown:

A spreadsheet breaking down the date, word count target, actual word count, words written this day
This spreadsheet was really helpful, but I’m glad I don’t have to fill it in anymore!

Next Steps

NaNoWriMo was a lot of fun and it has been very helpful. It has helped to challenge myself to set daily goals and I’ve made it through a lot more of my draft than I would have otherwise. I haven’t finished my first draft yet, but I’m pretty close to being done.

I’m going to try to finish it for the end of the month and then I’m going to do my best to ignore it for a month or so. After that, I’ll have a lot of editing to do, but I’m really excited!

I’m going to read a few books on writing as well, so I’ll share a post about those. I’ve never had to edit this big of a manuscript before (my first draft is already well over 100k with more to add). There will have to be a lot cut down, but I know that I want to include better descriptions of most places and characters, so it might end up being just as long by the time I’ve finished.

We’ll just have to see!

Thank-you for being on this journey with me! Writing has been a dream of mine since I was young, but I was never really confident enough to pursue it properly. The encouragement that I have been receiving has been incredible.

I appreciate it so much!
