Blog Reflections

I’ve recently enrolled in an online WordPress blogging course. I’ve been enjoying blogging, but it has very much been a “learn as you go” type of experience. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, but I am looking forward to learning more about writing and formatting new posts. I’ve recently tried a new block type, “gallery,” which I included in my last post, and I’m hoping to apply more variety in future posts.

I’m still early on in the course, and one of the assignments is to write a post answering the below questions. The questions are focused on clarifying goals, so I think this will be a beneficial activity. It’s been six months since my first post, so I’m hoping it will help to reflect and look forward.

Here are the questions and my answers:

Why are you posting publicly instead of keeping a diary?

Keeping a diary feels very isolating – especially in the year we’ve had. I’ve been enjoying interacting with the blogging community. I’m shy, so I hope that blogging publicly will raise my confidence (and it’s been helping so far).

What topics do you think you’ll write about?

I’ve mostly been writing about books and writing, which I will continue to do. I also write about health occasionally. I’m hoping to write about gaming, but I haven’t yet.

Who would you connect with via your blog?

I’ve really appreciated when readers have commented on my posts. I’ve learned from them, but it has been a bit surreal (but incredible) that people from other countries have given feedback. I’m hoping to comment more on other blog posts.

Eventually, I’d love to do author interviews, but I think that is something that I need to work up to.

If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what do you hope to accomplish?

I hope to establish a regular blogging schedule. My posts are mostly published weekly, but I want to stick to schedule more often.

I also want to improve the quality of my posts, which should hopefully come about from reading other posts, this course, and practice.

I’ve had a good experience over the last six months of blogging and I’m looking forward to the next six months. Thank-you to all of you who are joining me now; and thank-you especially to everyone who has stuck with me for this long!
